The letter is informing the Linguist and the Broker Often a local commercial agent in the Gulf who regularly performed duties of intelligence gathering and political representation. that since the Resident has been called away to Sheraz [Shiraz] on public duties, they are to be left in charge of the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. and the company factory An East India Company trading post. there. Outlined in the letter are detailed instructions covering their duties and responsibilities, along with further specific instructions concerning money and supplies, which they are to provide as requested.

Enclosed with the letter are two circulars, which provide instructions to the masters of merchant ships and the commanders of East India Company cruizers that arrive at Bushire. They also inform them that the Linguist and the Broker Often a local commercial agent in the Gulf who regularly performed duties of intelligence gathering and political representation. have been placed in charge of the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. at Bushire during the Resident's absence.
