About this record

Content

The letter is informing Captain Sealy of the intention of the Persian Government to attack Bahrain, and that the Shaikh of Bushire is proceeding to Muscat to negotiate with the Imam of Muscat for his assistance. It therefore instructs Captain Sealy that the 'Shaikh's boat' should be monitored.

It further informs him that Rama bin Jauber [Raḥmah bin Jābir], Cheftain of Kattiff [Al-Qaṭīf], and Sultan bin Sugger [Sulṭān bin Saqr], Cheiftain of Sharga [Sharjah], are likely to provide assistance to the Persians if called upon to do so. It notes for his information that the British Government only recognises the right of Persia to interfere in the affairs of the Arabian chiefs.
