In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , Bushire, informs James Pringle Riach, Assistant Surgeon at Bushire, that he (Stannus) will be leaving Bushire in a few days for a tour of the Arabian coast. Stannus places Riach in charge of the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. during his absence and provides details of various duties which may need to be carried out.
