In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , Bushire, encloses a translation of a letter from His Royal Highness the Prince of Shiraz [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. ], dated March 1824 and received 2 April 1824. The letter is a response to an earlier letter from Stannus (see ff 24v-25), which attempted to make amends for a letter of remonstrance from Captain Henry Hardy.
