In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , Bushire, requests a further supply of cash to enable him to complete the alterations at the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , which were detailed in his letter of 26 December 1823. Stannus gives a number of reasons for the difference between the estimated charges and the actual costs, including the speculation that materials such as glass for the windows, locks, hinges and other items were not taken into consideration when the expenses were calculated. Stannus requests an additional sum of 2500 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. , of which he states a significant amount has already been expended.
