About this record
- Content
The letter concerns the agreement (see ff 54v-57) established between Sooltan been Suggar [Sulṭān bin Saqr] and Sa‘īd bin Sultān Āl Sa‘īd, the Imam of Muscat. It reports that the Resident has received a letter from Shaikh Tannoon [Ṭaḥnūn bin Shakhbūṭ Āl Nahyān] indicating that Sooltan been Suggar has not yet taken any steps to uphold his part of the agreement. It is notes that the Resident has therefore written a strong remonstration to Sooltan, which he intends to have delivered via a cruizer.
Two enclosures:
1 - Translation of a letter from Shaikh Tannoon to Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, dated 23 January 1825. The enclosure reports that Sooltan been Suggar has not yet destroyed the towers at Brymee.
2 - Letter from Ephraim Gerrish Stannus to Sooltan been Suggar, Sharga [Sharjah], dated 1 February 1825. The enclosure indicates that the Resident is surprised that no steps have yet been taken to demolish the towers at Brymee, and that he is at a loss to explain the cause. It notes that the Resident insists on prompt compliance with the agreement to avoid raising his suspicions.
