The letter and its enclosures relate to the shipwreck of a vessel, its plunder by Bahraini subjects, and the alleged murder of a Banyan Merchant of Indian extraction. trader at Bahrain. Jones encloses a copy of his letter (no.181 of 1856) to Commodore Richard Ethersey, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Squadron, dated 2 June 1856, containing instructions to Ethersey to proceed to Bahrain to conduct investigations. Also enclosed is an extract of paragraph 10 from Ethersey’s reply (letter no.129 of 1856) to Jones, dated 26 June 1856, the original of which enclosed a receipt for the reparations paid by the Shaikh of Bahrain for the plundered property.
