Content

The letter and its enclosure is related to the theft of cargo from a shipwrecked vessel at Sharjah. Jones writes to state that he is inclined to disregard the recent testimonies obtained from the Chief Magistrate at Bombay, suggesting that the claims are “pure fabrication”. Jones also thinks that the value of goods stolen is higher than it should be. The enclosure is a letter from Jones to Shaikh Sultan bin Suggar [Sultan bin Saqr], dated 16 June 1856, alluding to the inaccuracy of the claims made to the Chief Magistrate in Bombay, and stating the once the terms of the compensation are fulfilled he will consider the matter closed.
