About this record

Content

The letter and its enclosures relate to the shipwreck and plunder of a vessel carrying pilgrims off the Oman coast near Ra’s al Ḥadd, and Jones’s correspondence with the Imam of Muscat Sa‘id bin Sulṭān on the matter. Jones writes that he believes the shipwreck to have taken place in an area under no jurisdiction, and that there is little that he or the Imam of Muscat can do further. Jones encloses the translated purport of a letter (folio 144) sent by him to Syed Saeed [Sa‘id bin Sulṭān], the Imam of Muscat, dated 6 February 1856, and Sa‘id bin Sulṭān’s reply (folio 145), dated 21 March 1856.
