The letter is an acknowledgement from Thompson of Dow A term adopted by British officials to refer to local sailing vessels in the western Indian Ocean. 's own letter of 11 October 1820. Thompson states that he has communicated the contents of the letter to Captain Blackwood of His Majesty's sloop Curlew , who commands the ships and vessels of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .
