Draft copy of a letter regarding his recent engagement to Sir Rutherford Alcock's stepdaughter (Amy Henrietta Lowder); informing him that the wedding is to take place at Westminster Abbey on 1 August 1878; and observing that he was sure Lord Lytton's private secretary Owen Tudor Burne would have informed him already of his bride to be's family as Burne was well acquainted with them.
The letter briefly discusses the Anglo-Turkish convention and attempts to formulate a policy regarding relations as well as his hopes that it may some day expand to include Persia and Turkistan.
The letter goes on to discuss the news he receives from friends at the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. ; his disappointment at not getting a place on the Indian Council and that in consequence he proposes to return to India to either rejoin his appointment or to take up any other post that Lord Lytton may think suitable for him.
The letter also informs Lord Lytton that he has come into his off-reckoning but that he has not desire to retire at this time.
The letter, although undated was written sometime between May 1878, when Pelly's engagement to Amy Henrietta Lowder was announced, and 1 August 1878 when the marriage took place.
