JOURNEY TO PERSEPOLIS.
September 19th. —The disease is still unabated ;
but I think the general consternation is somewhat
diminished, except with the Shahzadeh and some of
the principal people. The former does not think
himself safe at Dokuek, but has this morning issued
orders to proceed to Nasek, a place towards Ispahaun,
where it is said to be very cold. The town of Shirauz
is literally left to take care of itself. Several per
sons in office died to-day, and indeed the disorder
seems to attack principally those about court. The
Shirauzees say, " if it takes off so great a proportion
of kajars, there is no great harm done." The parish
in which the palace is situated is quite a desert;
there is not a soul left in it, between deaths and
desertions. There is one parish in the town in
which there has not been a single death yet. Yes
terday the deaths, as nearly as I can possibly ascer
tain by a variety of information, amounted to about
two hundred.
Aga Baba Khan has again returned to the town.
He says that, if all men of rank leave it, the whole
country Avill fall into dreadful confusion. He is,
therefore, resolved to stay, to prevent the conse
quences of the Shahzadeh's defection if possible.
The latter has not yet issued any orders respecting
the provisional government. He has this evening
resolved to go to Ardekou, a place on the Beibahoon
road in an elevated situation.
We hear that the disorder is making rapid progress
in the direction of Ispahaun.
