The letter is an order to proceed to Bussora [Basra] with the fleet under the command of Captain John Ward of the Eagle .

At the foot of the letter is a note that reads 'The same, to Captain Gabriel Henderson of the Essex storeship and Captain Thomas Lyon, of the Success snow'. This means that the above orders were repeated to these individuals but the letters have not been copied out in full.
