The letter expresses regret at the loss of Carrack [Kharg] to Meer Mahanna [Mīr Muhanna] and the subsequent threat to Bushire, but stipulates that the Company should not get involved in the disputes between the Mīr, the Dutch, and the Persian government. Approval is given for Jervis' accommodation of Dutch refugees from Kharg. The letter accompanies a shipment of broadcloth and long ells.
Copied at the end of the letter is an extract from the orders of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. in London, dated 26 Apr 1765. It is notification of the appointment of members to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , an instrument used to ensure the protection of the Company's shipping and to issue secret orders from London. The members appointed are Henry Crab [Crabb] Boulton (chairman), George Dudley (deputy), Charles Cutts, Robert Jones, Thomas Rous, and Henry Savage.
