JS provided in Article 5 - to the
Shaikh within (3) three months after the
close of each calendar year the sum of
(4) four annas per English ton of 2,240 lbs.
in respect of the Substances won and saved
during the said calendar year.
(b) The importation by the Company
of firearms and other weapons is prohibited,
except with the written permission of the
Shaikh.
(c) The Company may import such
alcoholic drinks and liquors as the
Company may require for the use of
their foreign employees but only with the
written permission of the Shaikh, and the

purpose of the Company’s operations
hereunder.
But the Company’s employees shall
not interfere or by their actions cause any
disturbance or cause opposition to the
Shaikh’s authority within the State of Ras al-
Shaimah and the employees shall not go
heyond the limit of their duties when
^ployed within or when leaving the confines
°1 the State of Ras-al-Khaimah for the purpose
of this Agreement.
Further in the event of any of the
Company’s employees - whether he be a
sen ior or a junior employee-committing an
oitenee which may cause disorder or
uherfere with the moral or religious laws or

The volume contains correspondence, primarily between Major Frank Holmes as negotiator for Petroleum Concessions Limited (PCL), John Skliros, Director of Petroleum Concessions Limited in London, the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Bahrain regarding progress in negotiations with Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr [Sulṭān bin Saqr Āl Qasimī], Ruler of Sharjah for a concession in his territories. The correspondence discusses the amendments to the agreement which the Shaikh wished to make, various conditions he wished to place on the concession. and negotiations over the financial terms of a potential concession.
