Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State to
acknowledge receipt of your confidential despatch 107-S of
2nd 1'ebruary on the subject of the request put forward by
Imperial Airways that customs duty should not be charged on
the full c.i.f. value of goods imported by air into Bahrein.
2 . In reply I am to say that after consultation with
the Foreign Office and the Air Ministry the Secretary of
State, subject to any observations which the Government of
India, to whom a copy of this letter is being sent, may have
to offer, agrees that His Excellency Sheikh Hamad should be
advised to take the assessment for duty as the declared value
of the goods plus a third of the air freightage. From the
Air Ministry letter of l6th April of which a copy is
enclosed, it will be seen that the two countries in which a
concession of this nature has already been made are Uganda
and the Sudan.
