Sumraary of working for year ended 31st December 1946 .
Traffic. All classes of traffic increased. Messages in
Arabic character between Bahrain and Kuwait and between
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and Bahrain have grown steadily.
Below are the comparative figures'for 1945 and 1946 for
paid messages sent and received during the twelve month
period ending 31st December. These figures do not incl
ude traffic dealt with on the Aircraft services nor
traffic for Iraq and Iran transiting Bahrain.

An increase of approximately 14$ over the 1945 figures.
Services . The Aircraft medium-wave and D.F. service.
Aircraft short-v/ave, and Aircraft point-to-point
services were all maintained on a 24 hours a day basis
throught the year.
The Marine medium-wave service for ships at sea was
curtailed from 24 to 16 hours a day after the Admiralty
control ceased on 1st January 1946.
The Marine short-wave service was reintroduced after
being suspended for the duration of the war. At present
two half-hour periods are provided daily. I
Gables . These were interrupted for long periods during
1946 but alternative Wireless circuits provided satis
factory An East India Company trading post. channels to Aden and Bushire almost throughout
the 24 hours each day.
The Wireless services to Kuwait, Hassa and Sharjah were
maintained all the year.
A Radio-Telephony circuit with Dukhan,Qatar awe opened
early in the year and has been in daily use. ^
Communication with Iran via our Station at Bushire
became totally interrupted, due to the disturbed polit
ical situation in Iran, on 19th September and remained
so until 11th November.
Technical . The Transmitter Hall has been extended to
accommodate a new 10 kilowatt transmitter, which is now
being installed, and with provision for possible future
additions.
This Branch has been provided with three additional
modern receivers and associated gear and modern Cetihode-
Ray Equipment for servicing all Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Wireless
equipment.
There have been six cases of repairs tb Ships 1 W'ireless
installations and two Lloyds Surveys have been carried
out on Wireless apparatus.
The rise in the Traffic and the return to a pre-v/ar foot*
ing has resulted in a consequent increase in Staff, from
a total of 41 in 1945 to 54 in 1946, excluding menials.
The designation of the Officer in Charge of Bahrain was
metee-ci. to that of Manager early in 1946.

The file contains correspondence relating to the collation and submission of the 1946 Administration Report of the Bahrain Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. and the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. , as well as the reports themselves.

The correspondence is between the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and representatives of institutions that provide reports and statistics for the annual report. These include: Medical Department of the Government of Bahrain; Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department; American Mission Hospital; Eastern Bank Limited; Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO); Customs Department of the Government of Bahrain; Cable and Wireless Limited; Victoria Memorial Hospital; British Overseas Airways Corporation; Petroleum Concessions Limited; Adviser to the Government of Bahrain (Sir Charles Belgrave); Imperial Bank of Iran; and Gray, Mackenzie & Co Limited. The Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. report (folios 23-33) is submitted to the Bahrain Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. by the Political Officer at Sharjah.
