Intelligence Summary No.15
The result of the Food Control Committee’s measures designee
to im p rov e the meat supply position and reduce the price of beef
and mutton was the reverse of what they had anticipated. No meat
appeared in the markets at all and sheep, goats, and steers, of
which there had previously been a number in the Island, disappears
into thin air. Unfortunately the Bahrain Government had no
•stock of animals themselves and as no imports were received for
several days there was no meat available for the majority of the
population. Certain necessary adjustments in the Food Control
committee s measures having been made by order of the Political
Agent there are once more ample supplies of meat.
