The file comprises correspondence and reports relating to outward trade from Bahrain and the ports of the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. to the ports of the Red Sea and East Africa, in response to concerns that some cargoes (and in particular oil) were reaching Italian East Africa and Italian-occupied British Somaliland. The principal correspondents in the file are: the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Bahrain (Major Reginald George Evelin William Alban); the Director of Customs for the Government of Bahrain (Claud Cranbrook Lewis DeGrenier); the Political Officer on the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. (Captain Roy Douglas Metcalfe); and the Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran.
