I regret that I cannot see my way clear to
release the drillers requested by Mr. Bowlby.
At the moment we require all of our drillers
for our essential operations. About a month or six weeks
from now the final stages of our well protection work will
be complete. At that time we shall have one driller
definitely surplus, and perhaps two. However, we have
held these men over the normal time period, and they will
have completed three years hard service in this area.
These men are tired, they need a change, and I should
hesitate to ask them to undertake another period of service
without the benefit of a furlough.
Yours very truly,
CALIFORNIA ARABIAN STANDARD OIL COMPANY
