I am directed by the Ivlarquess of Lansdowne to ac
knowledge receipt of your letter of the 13th. instant
which His Lordship has referred to the Treasury, with
the request that he may he favoured with the views of
the Lords Commissioners on the subject of the incidence
of the charge for the maintenance of two British Indian
convicts, sent for long terms of imprisonment in Indi
under Article 56 of the Siam Order-in-Council, after
conviction by His Majesty’s Court at Bangkok.
On receipt of Their Lordships’ reply a further
communication will be addressed to you, but in the
meanv/hile I am to state with reference to the last
sentence of your letter under acknowledgment that the
judicial fees and fines do not by any means suffice
