This file contains correspondence between British officials, oil company executives and local rulers regarding the exploration for oil (and the granting of oil concessions) in the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. region.

The correspondence primarily relates to the activities of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and its subsidiary, D'Arcy Exploration Limited.

The file contains letters (some of which are in Arabic) from local rulers including Shaikh Sultan bin Salim Āl Qāsimī One of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates; also used to refer to a confederation of seafaring Arabs led by the Qāsimī tribe from Ras al Khaima. , the ruler of Ra's al-Khaymah; and Shaikh Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
