In continuation of my letter No. 1068, dated nth April 1914, I have the
No. 73, dated 24th April ,914. honour to forward, for the information of
No. 74, dated 24th April 1914. the Government of India, a copy of the
No. 75, dated 24th Apni 1914. telegrams, noted in the margin, which have
been received from His Majesty’s Consul at Kerman, in regard to the accom
modation of the gendarmerie at that place.

The immediate crisis has been got over by gendarmerie’s evacuation of the
Bagh-i-Nasiri which is now empty.
Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Muhtasham with whom I was in communication most positively
declared he would not enter Kerman or quit Rafsinjan until the quarters were
vacated and ready for him.
I am now trying to play peacemaker in regard to other differences which
have arisen between the gendarmes and advanced guard of Bakhtiaris who
arrived here some time ago.

Following from Minister No. 23, dated April 14th -—Begins. Your telegram
No. 27.
After discussing the matter with General Officer Commanding, following has
been decided ; you and Glimsted (group undecypherable ? who are) alone able to
appreciate true situation as to accommodation at Kerman should arrange matter
between you and telegraph result to Governor-General at Anar or Rafsinjan. If
the Governor’s quarters are really absolutely necessary for the gendarmerie, you
should ask Governor-General as a favour to allow their occupation for stated
period pointing out facts and reminding him that gendarmerie^ are under his
special care and of his promise to me that he would treat them with all due con
sideration. If however you and Glimsted can find temporary quarters outside
Government House it would be much better to evacuate at once. General Officer
Commanding is telegraphing in similar sense to Glimsted.
I am telegraphing to Governor-General that matter is in your hands and
that you will do the best you can as intermediary with object of coming to a
friendly arrangement. Ends.

question of accommodation.

The subjects are:

  • the movements of Baluchi raiders in the Province;
  • the operations of the Swedish gendarmerie against Baluchi;
  • the departure of the new Governor General from Tehran;
  • Misbah-i-Divan, created Governor of Baluchistan, on a mission to pacify Persian Baluchistan;
  • finances.

There are copies of letters in French, from Major G Glimstedt, Commanding the IV Regiment of the Gendarmerie Gouvernementale at Kerman.

The volume comprises part 2 of two. Each part includes a divider which gives the subject and part numbers, year the subject file was opened, subject heading, and list of correspondence references contained in that part by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.

The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the file. The subject 348 (Kerman affairs) consists of two volumes IOR/L/PS/10/334-335, with part 1 in the first and part 2 in the second volume.
