The Bahrain Petroleum Company have announced an
immediate increase in wages of Re.l/- a day to the whole of
their Arab staff. They expect to make further increases to
their Arab artizans in the near future. This has been done
to discourage emigration to Dhahran where the Arabian American
Oil^Company have made large increases in the wages paid to
their Arab labour in Suudi Arabia. This course was dictated
to them by Ibn Saud who insisted that they should pay their
Arab labour at the same rates as gtheir Italian and Indian labour.
