TRANSFER OP ADEN.
With reference to the correspondence indinrg vrith"t 1 ie
Foreign and Political Department telegram No. 688 , dated the 22 nd
February 1932, I t aa directed by the Governor in Council to state
that the Resident and Coiamander-in-Ohief, Aden, who has been
asked to forward his report very urgently on the information
required by the Government of India in their express letter
No.F.592-N/31, dated the 13th February 1932, has promised to
despatch it by the mail of the 6 th ikrch 1932. In the meanwhile
I am to forward for the orders of the Government of India,drafts
of a notification under section 59 of the Government of India
Act, and a Regulation under section 71 of the Act, constituting
Aden into a Chief Commissionership, delegating the powers of
local Government to the Chief Commissioner, except some which it
is proposed to reserve to the Governor General in Council, and
revising and expanding the Aden Laws Uegulation, 1891.
2. As regards the amendments to be made in the existing Aden
Code and nomenclature of Officers exercising powers in Aden
under the Statutes in force, the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. will send
the necessary proposals on receipt of the report from the
Resident.
3 . As regards the grant to the Chief Commissioner of powers
under section 401 of the code of .Criminal Procedure 1898, the
Governor in Council agrees with the Government of India that it
would be preferable not to vest them in the Chief Commissioner.
The Governor in Council does not consider it necessary to
consult the High Court of Bombay in this respect.
