Dear Colonel Galloway,
Please refer to your telegram No. A/1048,
dated the 12th June, 1944, and subsequent correspondence
on the subject of a 15-cwt. truck supplied for the
Political Officer, frucial coast.
2. I should be grateful if you could give me
permission to sell this truck without further delay.
Murphy tells me that it is practically useless in the
Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. conditions and if we do not sell it now,
we will get very little for it. , \ <; . '

3. There is also a Ford pick-up bought as long
ago and as a result of Sir Geoffrey prior*s Demi-official
letter No. C/422, dated the 4th September, 1941, to Major
Alban. This is, of course, pretty shaky now, but I do
not want to sell it as to do so would leave the Political
Officer with practically no transport. I should, however
be grateful if you would also give or obtain for me
permission to use the money obtained from the sale of the
truck for the purchase of a new pick-up. New ones will
probably be available here within the next six months or
so and as soon as we hear that a new one is available,
the old one should then be sold. The proceeds from its
sale can be used (i) towards the purchase of the new
pick-up, if necessary, or (ii) to augment the Political
Officer, Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. *s Car Fund, or (iii) as may seem
appropriate.

The file is concerned with the purchase in 1941 of a Ford Pickup (1939 model) from Khalil bin Ebrahim Kanoo for the use of the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , along with subsequent repairs and acquisitions of replacement parts; of particular concern is the necessity of fitting desert tires to the pickup. Other companies involved include the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), California Arabian Standard Oil Company (CASOC), and the shipping agents Gray, Mackenzie and Company Limited. It therefore includes correspondence on the topic between the Bahrain Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , and either the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India.
