Sir:-
I am directed by Secretary Sir Edward Grey to
transmit to you herewith^ for any observations which the
Secretary of State of India may have to offer^copy of a
letter from the Anglo-Persian Oil Company relative to
geological surveys in Persia.
Viscount Morley will observe that the Company en-
quire
Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios.
, in the first place, whether this Department has
any record of a topographical survey of that country,
such a survey being, in their opinion, a necessary pre
liminary to a geological survey.
On February 11th. of this year. Sir E. Grey re
ceived from Lord Morley a copy of "Memoirs of the Geo
logical survey of India, volume XXXIV, part IV" contain
ing "The Geology of the PerSiam Gulf and the adjoining
portions of Persia and Arabia" by G. E. Pilgrim, B.Sc.,
F.G.S., Geological Survey of India.
