I explained to him in the form indicated by you and he was greatly
relieved. He promised to send rne a reply of approval next day but
no reply came until tire 2ord of July. Feeling that he might have
the
been influenced oy/ill-advice of the bhaikh of gharjah, I decided
to go and see shaikh Saidj about it. Accordingly I went to Dubai
on 24th. July and met shaikh said, in the presence of his son
Aashid, I enquired from him why he did not send his reply whereas
. he promised to do so within a day. lashid at once said that he
forgot all about it and that he „ill send it definitely on that
day. pe fulfilled his promise and sent his reply in a proper form
on the same day.
6. I do not think that Bethel case will have any effect in
persuading the Shaikh of Sharjah to cede jurisdiction. He did not
evince much interest in it when it occurred as it did not affect
his or his subject^* interests. I think his object in leaving for
Has al Khaimah without sending his reply is to wait and see whether
the other Trucial Shaikhs will agree or not. In any case, I hope
I will succeed in obtaining a proper reply from him when he
returns to Sharjah.
