Andruks. —Dr., German, head of mission going with 120 carts, supplies and
ammunition, from Baghdad to Persia, June 1916. Other members are Shinker,
Humm, Dr. Shatt, Fischer.
Angmann. —Swedish gendarmerie officer, anti-British. At Shiraz. (5th
October 1915). Reported to have brought 300,000 tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. from German Consul
for Wassmuss (14th October 1915.) Said to have taken prominent part in the
shooting of Mackertich, the Armenian I. E. T. D. signaller, at Shiraz (10th
December 1915). Arrested in Shiraz (9th April 1916) and put on his trial (5th
May 1916).
Anyreas. —Swedish Gendarmerie officer, anti-British, at Shiraz, August
1915.
’ Araibi Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. . —Son of Wadi A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows. , nephew of Saihud, brother of Rhalifah.
Shaikh over 20,000 Al-bu-Muhammad Arabs at Chahalah. Said to be £T. 5 Q ,000
in debt to the Turkish Government. He was with the Turks at Rotah (31st
March 1915) and subsequently, but it appears that he would have liked to
c< come in ” (7th April 1915), and he and his nephew wore sent away from
Hilmi’s force as traitors. (2nd June 1915). He was at Chahalah (12th Decem
ber 1915).
Argcb, Shaikh —Reported to have collected 3,000 men between Bghailah
and 'Azizieh. (19th October 1915).

Arjaz Kikha. —Darashuri (the Darashuris are a section of Qashqai)
quarrels with the Saulet and flees to Bakhtiari for assistance which was
refused. On way back looted Kardorffi (7th July 1916).
