PAN—PAR
and in the neighbouring valleys is very good, and togaz is very plentiful
There are a few date palms. The climate is good, the winters being cold,
but without snow, and the summers cooler than in Bazman. (Wood,
February 1899.)
PARA—
A village in Kirman, 8 miles east of Azizabad, on the road from Bam to
Nasratabad. It is situated on the side of a deep ravine, with cultn ated
fields about it, and the country is fertile. Some salt mines worked only for
local use are said to exist in the Kirman mountains near Para, and Para
pomegranates are celebrated.— (Rozario.)
PlRAG or PARAK—
A fishing village on the north shore of Chahbar Bay, in Makran, 6 or
7 miles by water from Tiz and 12 miles from Chahbar.
It is 77 miles south of Geh and 30 east of the Kair river. Drinking water
is obtained from wells. .
The halting-place of Parag, where the telegraph line and road cross the
Kaur, is about miles from the sea, sandhills intervening. It is the
second stage from Chahbar, 18^ miles from that place and 12 from
Tiz. On to the Sirgan is about 13 miles. Water is plentiful, from holes
in the bed of the water-course, but it is rather salt. Firewood and camel
forage, moderate. ir-u
That part of the coast range to the north is known as the Parag K un,
but the high peak north-west of Parag is Suhrbur (q.v.).
Parag forms a suitable point of disembarkation for an advance on
Bampiir via Geh. .
The population in 1906 consisted of only some 50 persons.
No supplies obtainable : water from shallow holes in a sandy ndld. very

PARCHAND— ' _ . .
A stream in Bashakard, which is crossed by the Anguran-Sikfinkan
road, 6 miles from the former place. Where crossed by the road its flow
is south-east .—(Medley and Massy, July 1893.)
pardin—
A village of 15 houses in Makran, 15£ miles west of Fanuch (q.v.),
on the Ramishk road. Scanty supplies are procurable, but fuel and water
are in abundance. Its mdlidt in 1893 was 30 tumdns.—{Brazier-Creagh,
1893 ; from native information.)
PARlAB or FlRlAB— Elev. 2.220'.
village in Kirman, 37 miles east of Daulatabad, and lying at the
junction of various routes leading to Bam, Baft, Bandar Abbas, and Khanu.
It consists of a large scattered village, situated among tamarisk and date
groves. Some supplies are procurable_, _ with water from qandts.—(GiU,

The volume comprises that portion of Persia south and east of the Bandar Abbas-Kirman-Birjand to Gazik line, with the exception of Sistan, 'which is dealt with in the Military Report on Persian Sistan'. It also includes the islands of Qishm, Hormuz, Hanjam, Larak etc. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the whole district of Shamil.

The gazetteer includes entries on villages, towns, administrative divisions, districts, provinces, tribes, halting-places, religious sects, mountains, hills, streams, rivers, springs, wells, dams, passes, islands and bays. The entries provide details of latitude, longitude, and elevation for some places, and information on history, communications, agriculture, produce, population, health, water supply, topography, climate, military intelligence, coastal features, ethnography, trade, economy, administration and political matters.

Information sources are provided at the end of each gazetteer entry, in the form of an author or source’s surname, italicised and bracketed.

The volume contains an index map, dated July 1909, on folio 323.

The volume also contains a glossary (folios 313-321).
