RAS-KHARUN— Lat. 26° 34' 10"; Long. 55° 28'.
A point in the island of Qishm, Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , near tne river channel to
' Basidu. Half a mile from here are several salt hills; and boats load with
salt for the Arabian coast.— {Bruchs.)
RAS KINAREH (?)—
A very low point, 12 miles north by west, three-quarter-west from Ras-
as-Shir on the coast of Kirman. There are many mangroves here,
and about 4 miles to the north is the entrance to the creek of the same
name, used by boats of 20 tons burden. This is the nearest part of the
Persian coast to the opposite promontory of Ruais-al-Jabah-— {Bruchs ;

RAS KtJHLAB (Persian Baluchistan)—
Also called “Mutahaddin” and “ Baragin,” the west point of the bay
of Chahbar. It is of low cliffs and has no reef off it; from it the cliffs trend
to the north and north-west, increasing in height to a point of cliff 3 J miles
to the north-west, which is 270 feet high. From this the cliff runs west
ward towards Puzim, the low coast commencing in the bay north
of this point; inland of these cliffs it is quite low between Chahbar and
Puzim bays. Native vessels anchor for shelter off Kuhlab Point in north
westers. Ras Kuhlab has 3 fathoms of water at J mile off, with 8 close
inside, and the cliffs north of it are safe to approach to £ mile, but beyond
them the west and north side of the bay are shoal, there being only

RAVARAN—
A village of 500 houses in Rudkan. There are many date palms and
wheat, barley and jowdr are cultivated. The inhabitants possess 700 jezail
and 3 Martini rifles. Livestock : 800 cattle and 1,000 sheep and goats.
Sweet water from a river which is very broad to the north and narrow to the

The item is Volume IV of the four-volume Gazetteer of Persia (1910 edition).

The volume comprises that portion of Persia south and east of the Bandar Abbas-Kirman-Birjand to Gazik line, with the exception of Sistan, 'which is dealt with in the Military Report on Persian Sistan'. It also includes the islands of Qishm, Hormuz, Hanjam, Larak etc. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the whole district of Shamil.

The gazetteer includes entries on villages, towns, administrative divisions, districts, provinces, tribes, halting-places, religious sects, mountains, hills, streams, rivers, springs, wells, dams, passes, islands and bays. The entries provide details of latitude, longitude, and elevation for some places, and information on history, communications, agriculture, produce, population, health, water supply, topography, climate, military intelligence, coastal features, ethnography, trade, economy, administration and political matters.

Information sources are provided at the end of each gazetteer entry, in the form of an author or source’s surname, italicised and bracketed.

The volume contains an index map, dated July 1909, on folio 323.

The volume also contains a glossary (folios 313-321).
