SAR-I-FEHKUJ —See Sar-i-PAHURA.
SAR-I-GUDAR—
A halting-place in Kirman, 80 miles south of the town, on the road to
Minab.— (Petty.)
SAR-I-JANGAN— Elev. 4,450'.
A village among the Bampusht hills of Persian Baluchistan, 10 miles
north-east of Mangi Kaur Daf. The inhabitants, to the number of about
60, are Dorazai Baluchis, who, though belonging to the British side of the
border, own property in this neighbourhood, and come here periodically
to harvest their crops and dates. There are no supplies, but water, grass
and grazing are abundant.— (Orton, 1902.)
SARlK— or SIRlK
A village on the coast of Kirman, the capital of the Blaban district, 100
miles from Bandar Abbas and 102 from Jashk. It contains a large mud’ fort
and 200 huts, and is situated 4 miles from the sea and 6 miles from the
hills. Supplies are procurable in' abundance, and sweet water from wells.
It is the residence of the chief of the district.—(KrnmV; Petty.)

A stage on the Khanu-Minab road.— (Floyer.)
SAR-I-KASKIN (Kirman)—Lat. 27° 27' 0". Long. 60° 19' 9".
A stage on the Jauri-Bampur road, 20 miles from the latter. Water ’

SARI, KUH-I- —
A peak in the Sianeh Kuh, elevation 8,683 feet, near the south-east
border ot Sarhad.— (Jennings.)
SAR-I-KtH—
A village in Persian Baluchistan, near Talk (q.v.).
SAR-I-NARAN (?) (or NAHRAN)—
A halting-place, about 12 miles beyond Giranrig, between Bam and
Bampur. There are streams of slightly brackish water here—

SARIN KAUR— . ^
A stream in Makran, and an affluent of the Sarbaz river, which it loins
a few miles south of Rask—(Wood, 1899.) J
SAR-I-PAHURA, or SAR-I-EEHRUJ— Elev. 5,000'.
A halting-place in Persian Baluchistan, about 13 miles 5 furlongs west
of Magas on the road to Bampur. It is nearly on the watershed of the
s ’ ^pidan Kuh, etc., which divide the low-lying plain of Bampur from
the higher country to the east. The name signifies ‘‘ head,” or commence
ment of Pahura (q.v.), a sub-division of Bampur, which is there-
fore supposed to extend east as far as this place. The actual line of

The item is Volume IV of the four-volume Gazetteer of Persia (1910 edition).

The volume comprises that portion of Persia south and east of the Bandar Abbas-Kirman-Birjand to Gazik line, with the exception of Sistan, 'which is dealt with in the Military Report on Persian Sistan'. It also includes the islands of Qishm, Hormuz, Hanjam, Larak etc. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the whole district of Shamil.

The gazetteer includes entries on villages, towns, administrative divisions, districts, provinces, tribes, halting-places, religious sects, mountains, hills, streams, rivers, springs, wells, dams, passes, islands and bays. The entries provide details of latitude, longitude, and elevation for some places, and information on history, communications, agriculture, produce, population, health, water supply, topography, climate, military intelligence, coastal features, ethnography, trade, economy, administration and political matters.

Information sources are provided at the end of each gazetteer entry, in the form of an author or source’s surname, italicised and bracketed.

The volume contains an index map, dated July 1909, on folio 323.

The volume also contains a glossary (folios 313-321).
