Dear
With reference to my letter IX)/416 of the
31st July, 1940, and our telephone conversation of today
about the maps from the California Arabian standard Oil
Company, 1 have had a letter from Gibson of the India
Office (copy of which has been sent to you) asking whether
the Saudi Government have agreed to a request stated to
have been made to the Saudi Minister in London in respect
of the inclusion of certain data in these maps for the War
Office.
Political Agent
A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency.
Bahrein on receipt of these maps from the
Oil Company, to send copies of them to G-in-Cs India, and
Middle East. It seems that the Oil Company is reluctant
to hand them over until they are sure of the attitude of the
Saudi Arabian Government. I am sending a copy of this
letter to Gibson at the
India Office
The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors.
