THE. KING "HUSAIN - BIN SAUD CONTROVERSY.
( Note by Captain PMIhy 'i
/
1. It occurred to me after our meeting of
yesterday while thinking over the subject of our
conversation that, as I took the liberty of
dissenting decidedly from a specific proposal
put forward by Wilson in connection with Central
Arabian policy, I ought to submit to you in
writing my reasons for so dissenting and my
considered opinion on the matter under discussion.
2. First let me make it clear that I do not
in any sense represent Wilson here; while I was in
Arabia he generally supported my proposals and
adhered to the policy previously laid down by
Sir Percy Cox; subsequently when I presented my
report on my mission he expressed a general
approval of the sentiments therein expressed.
Since then I have been out of touch with Arabian
affairs and Wilson’s views and am therefore not
in a position to understand any change of views
on his part. His telegram makes it clear that he
has changed his views and to that extent it was
perhaps unfortunate that at the Conference of
February 24th I expressed the opinion that I
might speak with authority. I hope it will
therefore be understaod that mine was but a voice
crying from the wilderness with nothing to guide
me but the special knowledge of Central Arabian
politics which I think I may fairly claim to have
acquired
