I transmit to Your ExceHoney herewith copy of a
letter from the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. forwarding a despatch from
the Government of India on the subject of the occupa
tion by Turkish military posts of certain positions on
the waterway of the Khor Abdulla which are considered
to be of great importance in connection with the pro
longation of the projected Bagdad Railway to the Per
sian Gulf, and of the claims of the Sheikh of Koweit to
the districts in which they are situated.
The Government of India do not propose to contest
the Turkish occupation of the Urn Kasr on the mainland
to which, in their opinion, the claims of the Sheikh
are not strong; but Your Excellency will observe that
in the final paragraph of the despatch it is suggesued
that His Majesty's Government shall take suen measures
as
