With further reference to our letter dated 18th instant
regarding the seven Rifles which we have been instructed
to despatch to you by The Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in The Persian
Gulf, we have just heard that the weapons are now ready
for despatch at the Works, and we are therefore requesting
our Shipping Department to give the necessary forwarding
instructions, and they will in due course send you full
advice as to the route and method of shipment.
>
We would explain that the Rifles and Ammunition are
being despatched from the Continent to save as much time
as possible, as there would only be additional delay
if these goods are imported and re-exported from England,
and for this reason the Rifle Cases, which are being
sent from this country, have been supplied with loose
blocks, and it will be quite an easy matter for these
blocks to be cut down to the required length so that the
barrels and stocks are kept in correct position. The
blocks have been purposely left on the long side, as it
is naturally easier to cut them down than to add to their
length.
Assuring you at all times of our best attention,
V/e are, Sir,
Yours faithfully,,
