I would aad that I am sure that if' my Company could
secure a letter from His Britannic Majesty's G-overnment
and/or His Excellency the Shaikh of Kuwait on the lines
indicated, or if His Britannic Majesty's Government would
agree to our procuring such a letter, it would be of
considerable assistance to my Company and our application
lor this Concession because this would, as it were, open
the door for the Saudi Arab Government to enter into
negotiations with the Standard Oil Company of California
with a view to persuading them to cede what they at present
believe to be their right in the Neutral Zone. Once this
could be arranged it would be possible to exploit the
area with British Capital and in British interests only.
I shall not be revealing any secret if I add that the
Saudi Arao Government Officials are strongly desirous of
dealing with Britishers in preference to other Nationals
provided such British interests are willing to proceed with
the development of the country. I am of the ojoinion that
some effort should be made to meet the Saudi Arab
Government’s request in this instance, as by taking the
fullest advantage of this opportunity we shall certainly be
instrumental in establishing British interests in Saudi
Arabia.
I shall be grateful if you will kindly let me have
your reply to this letter by air mail at your earliest
convenience, at the address given below, to enable me to
proceed with my negotiations in regard to the Neutral Zone
Concession.
