Thanks very much for your Secret D.O. No.VDG/lO/31 dated the
3rd May 1935 regarding the exact limits of the Standard Oil of
California’s Hassa Concession.
£. (a) Firstly, let me tell you that I have been very fortunate
lately and have been able to get "right from the fountain head"
of the Saudi Government (though X am not at liberty to say
actually how I got it, or by what means) an exact copy of the
English version of the Standard Oil Corapany’s concession as
granted to Ur. L.N. Hamilton of that Company by Bin Baud in May
1933. This X am now sending to you, and you will see that it
defines the boundaries of the concession, and quotes money
figures etc. where these were withheld from the public before.
(b) The only copy of the concession previously known to ipe,
and as far as I am aware also to His Majesty’s Government and the
Government of India, was the "abridged" edition as published in
the Mecca Newspaper "Um al ^ura" No. 4r4B of Blst iiabi’ al Awal
1352 (14th July 1933), translation of which was sent to the
Foreign Office London under British Legation Jedda’s No.235 dated
25th July 1933, with revised translation under Legation’s No.3256
dated 28th November 1933 (copies of both of which were passed to
me by
