Should it be found that the land near Bawarda is not suitable for the
Companv’s purposes owing to the silting up of the fore-shore or for some other
reason, the Company may select another site m lieu thereof, but it is clearly
understood that the Company shall select such land as has to be free of date
trees and has no right to land with such trees, and the public rights of way
must remain,

Clause 1 of this present Agreement: that is to.say land aggiegating m all
2,500 iereebs, and tbe Sheikh has no claim for any further payments ■what
soever in respect of these lands before the expiry of 65 years, namely, until the
first day of September 1983.
3. The Company has also the right to occupy free of rent, dining the
period referred to, such land as is required for the purpose of the laying of
further pipe-lines and the building of telephone stations, pumping stations, etc.
4. Should the Company at any time during the period referred to, owing
to their inability to procure Crude Oil desire to cease work at Abadan, the)
shall have no claim to any refund in respect of the sum of £50,0u0 paid to the
Sheikh under Clause 2 of this Agreement.
This Agreement has been written, signed and sealed at Mohammerah on
the third day of September 1918 (corresponding to the twenty-six day of
Dzulqaadah 1336).

The volume consists mainly of six bound compilations of treaties and undertakings, together with related correspondence and other supplementary material, made between the British Government and the British Protectorates of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , 1820-1919. These treaty compilations were published by the Government of India in 1919 and comprise: the Trucial Treaties to January 1906, Treaties with Rulers of Kuwait from 1841 to 1913, Treaties with the Sultan of Oman and Muscat from 1845 to 1914, Undertakings with the Trucial Chiefs of Oman from 1911 to 1912, Treaties with the Shaikh of Mohammerah from 1899 to 1919 and Treaties with the Rulers of Bahrain from 1820 to 1914. In addition, there is a separate Foreign Office ‘Memorandum on British Commitments (During the War) to the Gulf Chiefs’ made in 1916, which contains at Appendix A, the English text of the treaty made with the Ruler of Qatar in 1916. The treaty compilations are published in English and Arabic, except for the treaties with the Shaikh of Mohammerah, which are published in English and Persian.
