His Majesty^ Legation present their compliments
to the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have the
honour to state that it has been brought to their notice
thrt Iranian Police Officials, when travelling on British
vessels in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , have in certain cases been
unwilling to hand over to the Master of the ship, for safe
custody during the voyage* emu ammunition in their
po asession.
2. According to the Merchant Shipping Act of 1894, which
is applicable to all British merchant vest ela on the high
seas or in British waters, the carriage of dangerous goods*
including lirearms snd ammunition, is subject to special
proviaiohs, the contravention of which carries A heavy
penalty. In order tnat any misunuerstandixig may be avoided
in the future, Hia Majesty’s Legation have the honour to
request tnat ins true ti oas may be conveyed to all officials
of the Iranian Army and Police who may have occasion to
travel on British vessels to hand over to the Master any
arms and ammunition an their possession, against a receipt,
Cor custody during the voyage.

The Imperial v.F.A. presents its compliments to H.B.M.
Legation, and with reference to the -Megatiorts memo. No. 491
of the 17th October 1940, concerning certain Police officials
who apparently omitted on occasion when travelling on bocsd
British ships in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. to hand over their arms
to the captain of the ship for the period of their voyage,
has the honour to strte as follows:-
Instructions have been issued by the appropriate quartern
of the Imperial Government to all Police and Army officials
to deliver to the captain or his representative their arms
for the duration of their voyage, sho uidthey travel on board
foreign ships, and shoiild the ship’s regulations require
this to be done.
