1529/38 of the 19th March regarding the certification
of cash balances held by consular officers on behalf
of the Government of India, I am directed by Viscount
Halifax to state for Lord Zetland's information that
it is felt on general grounds, and after consultation
with the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury,
to be desirable that all monthly accounts rendered to
the Government of India by consular officers should be
accompanied by bank certificates showing the closing
fce, ^-otcvdi ^ ^ a ^ ance a ' t the end of each month?
2 * therefore proposed to instruct consular
officers accordingly.
3. Copies of this letter have been sent to the
Dominions Office, the Colonial Office, the Exchequer and
Audit Department and the Treasury.
