This file contains an account of the history of Bahrein [Bahrain] that was written by Brigadier-General Sir Terence Humphrey Keyes while he was serving as Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in the country.

The account (folios 2-8) gives details of the Al Khalifa family's takeover of the islands, the development of Britain's role (including mention of the Native Agent Non-British agents affiliated with the British Government. and Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. system) and discussion of the ethnic/national composition of the country's merchant community. It also contains a description of the state of the pearl fishing industry in Bahrain, with details of its financial structure, the process of pearl diving itself and the logistics involved in selling the pearls.

The account was written by Keyes for the benefit of Major General Sir Thomas Perrott and was sent to his wife Gertrude Perrott. On folios 9, the file contains a letter from Keyes to Gertrude Perrott that introduces the account.

On folio 10, the file contains another letter that was sent from Keyes to Gertrude Perrott in which he briefly discusses events of the First World War including reports of a British victory over Ottoman forces around Basra.
