both residential and industrial were erected. Qatari
contractors working under the supervision of Company
technicians were used upto the end of the year. The
Umm Bab area has been selected as the residential
area and the Industrial ares will be sited on the
plateau about three quarters of a mile east of the
nevt El Hamleh harbour.
Work on a pilot jetty of 400 yards by 20
yards was begun at A1 Hamleh. Messrs. Holloway
Brothers are building a trans-peninsular road which
is expected to be ready by mid June of 1949. They
have also completed about 60^ of the Umm Said Jetty.
An air strip has been constructed at Umm
Said and the first plane landed on it on the 18th
November, 1948.
