Abridgement of the Miftāḥ al-ḥisāb (مفتاح الحساب) by Ghiyāth al-Dīn Jamshīd ibn Masʿūd ibn Maḥmūd al-Kāshī (غياث الدين جمشيد بن مسعود بن محمود الكاشي, d. 1429 or 1436) or al-Kāshānī (الكاشاني), composed by the author himself (see f. 1v, lines 5-7, transcribed below). The abridgement is arranged in thirty sections (فصل), and contains numerous diagrams.

Begins (f. 1v, lines 3-7):

الحمد لله الواحد الفرد القديم الصمد الذي آلائه غير محدودة ونعمائه غير محصورة ولا مفرودة

والصلوة والسلام على محمد خير البرية وآله وأصحابه الجنية الزكية أما بعد فإن أحوج خلق الله

غياث الدين جمشيد مسعود بن محمد الطيب الكاشاني الملقب بغياث أحسن الله أحواله يقول لما فرغت

عن تحرير كتابي المسمى بمفتاح الحساب فانتخبت منه هذا المختصر فيما لا بد عنه للمبتدئين وسميته

تلخيص المفتاح وجعلته مشتملًا على ثلثين فصلًا ...

Ruling: No ruling visible; 21 lines per page; vertical spacing 16 lines per 10 cm

Script: Nasta‘līq

Ink: Black ink, with rubricated headings and diagrams, and occasional overlinings in red

Binding: Single quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. case binding; leather spine; hand painted silver borders, medallion and pendants; boards covered in green paper

Condition: Some insect damage repaired; ff. 9 and 10 mutilated towards gutter and some text lost

Marginalia: Many by more than one hand; some mutilated due to page trimming

Seals: ff. 1r and 10v
