I have tho honour to submit some items of information
about the recent Japanese Miisslon to Baud! rable# to
supplement t)io«e given in rny telegram Ho. 4P dated April
12th.
2. According to Shatkh Yusuf Yasln# it is with the
object of compelling Japan to buy part of the Hass date
crop that the quota provision has been inserted in the
Saudi counter-draft.
3. bhaifch Yusuf also says that the treaty ie to
contain an undertaking by Japan to encourage the pilgrimage.
The Japanese interest in the pilgrimage ia confirmed by a
certain Yahyo use Bokhari# who was mentioned in paragraph
160 of the Jedda Keport for i prll 1936 as having been sent
to Jsnan by his fathar *to become an expert in electricty* 5 #
and waa referred to in the local press later on ae having
arrived in Tokio to engage in propaganda for the pilgrimage.
4. The information obtained from this Yahya is sc
follows. The Japanese Iinister was well satisfied with his
visit to Klysdh. The main object of the mission was to
arrange for the opening of a legation in Jeddas the Japanese
not only wished to strengthen trade relations# but soon
they would be the friends and guardians of the f osleine in
