Commentary by Jawād ibn Saʿd ibn Jawād al-Kāẓimī (جواد بن سعد بن جواد الكاظمي, d. ca 1654-5 [see al-Amīn, A‘yān al-shī‘ah , vol. 4, p. 271]) on the Summa of Arithmetic (خلاصة الحساب) by his teacher Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-‘Āmilī (بهاء الدين محمد بن حسين العاملي; d. 1621).

The text contains numerous diagrams.

Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-4):

الحمد لله الواحد العظيم والفرد القديم الذي يقصر العد عن آياته ويتعذر المار (؟) الحصر [عن أ]قل نعمائه

والصلوة والسلام على سيد أنبيائه المكمل بأعلى مرابت الكمال و آله الذين هم

خير آل صلوة متتاليته تتبالي الغدو والأضال أما بعد فيقول أقل العباد جواد بن

سعد بن جواد ...

Ends (f. 168v, lines 11-13):

انتهى كلام المط[ـلوب ؟] فلنقطع الكلام حامدين لله على توفيقه والهداية لا سواء طريقه وإنا أيضـ[ـًا] أوصيك

أيها الأخ بما أوصي به المصـ[ـنف ؟] فإن في هذ[ا] الشرح نفائس يجب صيانتها عمن ليس أهلها والحمد لله وحده

والصلوة على من لا نبي بعده وآله الأبرار الحجج الأطهار ما اختف الليل والنهار ...

Ink: Black ink, with rubricated headings (in text block and in margins) and diagrams and lemmata overlined in red

Condition: Extensive insect damage, but with little loss of text

Marginalia: Few, most appear to be by hand of scribe
