As Mr. Metcalfe got f~ee feoard and lodging there is not
sufficient justification for granting him a customs coupenea;ory
allowance of Re. ICO/- p.m* The Governor General in Council
is* however* pleased to sanction the grant to him of a cut toms
compensatory ailowanee of Re* SO/* p.m.
3* The extra expenditure involved should he divided
equally between His Majesty’s Government and the Indian revenuee

obviated the nece^eity of filling the temporary post of ihe
