With regard to Article
of the Treaty which we have signed to-day I desire
to make the following statement on behalf of the
So far as I can learn as the result of a careful
examination of the archives of the Ministry for
Foreign Affairs all treaties and agreements between
our two Governments which are in any way contrary
to the situation resulting from that treaty and from
the Treaty of Commerce and Navigation have been
annulled at one time or another. If* however, any
such treaty or agreement at any time comes to light,
the Persian Government have no intention of invoking
its provisions to justify a demand for a revision
of our mutual relations or for a modification of
