I am directed hy the Secretary of
State for India to enclose a copy of a
letter from the Foreign Office, with its

enclosures, regarding tke proposal to
increase the emoluments of the Head-Clerk;
and Head- Munshi A term used in the Middle East, Persia and South Asia to refer to a secretary, assistant or amanuensis. Munshis were employed in the British administration in the Gulf. at Ahwaz.
It will he seen that the Lords
Commissioners of H.M. ’s Treasury "are-

agreeable t-o the proposal to increase
the bonus payable to these two employees
from 30 per cent, to 55 per cent, of
their basic salaries with effect from
July 1st, 1934, and are prepared to
bear a moiety of the cost involved.
I am to enquire whether the Government
of India concur in the proposal.and if
so, whether they would be willing to
accept as a charge on Indian revenues
the other moiety of the expenditure in
question,
