The volume contains letters, telegrams, minutes and draft correspondence relating to the renewal of the Anglo-Muscat Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation of 1891. The volume also covers the insertion of a clause in the agreement to allow for the Union of South Africa, a British Dominion, to withdraw from the treaty.
From April 1937 much of the correspondence concerns the Sultan's wish to revise the 1891 treaty and the subsequent negotiations. No conclusion of these negotiations is covered by the volume.
